A Case of Tinea Incognito
Abstract
Tinea incognito refers to a dermatophyte infection that has been altered clinically by use of oral or topical corticosteroids.
We report a case of tinea incognito developed in a 5-year-old male who developed erthematous papules on the right cheek. The lesion had been spreading after topical application of corticosteriod ointment over a period of 3 months under the
impression of
contact dermatitis.
Direct KOH examination for function for fungus of the lesions demonstrated hyphae and cultured T richophyton mentagrophytes.
The lesions were completely cured after systemic and topical antifungal therapy for 3 months.
